- Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - The Tribune-Review's endorsement cited Congressman Murtha's "exemplary service," his promotion of economic growth and prosperity for the 12th District, and his record as a "steadfast voice for this nation's military." The Tribune-Review ended it's endorsement with the statement, "The 12th District, and certainly America, needs John Murtha."
- Pittsburgh Post-Gazette - "...(Congressman Murtha), a retired colonel of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, had a 37-year military career and was decorated for his service in Vietnam.
